Cognitive & Educational Assessments
Acorn provides cognitive and educational assessments for neurodiverse children and youth.
Many of our children and youth have co-occurring dyslexia (specific learning disability related to reading and decoding), dysgraphia (specific learning disability related to writing) and/or dyscalculia (specific learning disability related to maths) or an intellectual disability. Our psychologists provide assessments for underlying learning and/or intellectual disabilities.
Our Cognitive and Educational Assessment Process
-
One of our psychologists will meet with you online for a brief initial consultation to learn about your child and make an assessment plan with you.
-
The psychologist will carry out an intellectual/cognitive assessment, WISC-V (Weschsler Intelligence Scale for Children), which will take 60-90 minutes to complete with your child at our centre.
-
An academic/achievement assessment, WIAT-3 (Weschler Individual Achievement Test), will also be used. This will take about two hours to complete with your child at our clinic. This can be broken into two sessions depending on your child’s capacity.
-
The assessments will be scored and the results analysed.
A comprehensive report will be written summarising and explaining the results, as well as giving recommendations.
The psychologist will meet with you to discuss the findings and recommendations.
An additional meeting with your child’s school team is available upon request.
-
The cost for a cognitive/ educational assessment is $1600 (incl. GST).
Additional assessment activities, including meeting with your child’s school team, are charged at $210 per hour.

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
