When should I consider Speech-Language Therapy?

Toddler:

  • Your child is not babbling using a range of sounds by around 12 months

  • Your child uses fewer words than expected for their age

  • Your child has lost words or language skills they previously used

  • Your child is difficult for others to understand

  • Your child has difficulty understanding or following simple instructions

School-age:

  • Your child has difficulty playing with others or forming friendships

  • Your child has difficulty using full or increasingly complex sentences

  • Others often find it hard to understand your child

  • Your child often goes off topic when answering questions or telling a story

  • Your child has difficulty following multi-step instructions

  • Your child is reluctant to communicate with peers or less familiar family members

  • Your child shows signs of stuttering beyond the age of three

  • Your child is experiencing difficulties with reading, writing, or other written language skills
